King’s Crossing Herald
March 13, 2008
Greetings Lords and Ladies,
Spring will soon be upon us and spring fever is well settled in. We have several methods to quench this fever:
1. Reserve your seat for one of our splendid Medieval Feasts which are planned for Friday, March 28th and Saturday April 26th at 7:00 in the evening. Our feasts are prepared by the house cook (that would be me), hosted by innkeeper (Rick) and served banquet style by wenches and/or serving boys all garbed in period attire. We have live Medieval music and a delicious menu which includes roasted turkey or chicken legs, hearty vegetable and beef soup, twice baked potatoes, breads, fruits, dessert and wine, of course. I will substitute the poultry with pork loin if you ask prettily. Silverware is optional and guests are welcome to dress in medieval garb. The cost is $30 per person and reservations and prepayment are required. Call 712-526-2873 or 2486 to secure your seat.
2. Traverse the scenic countryside to our humble vineyard & winery. Wine tasting and tours are free of charge. We have wonderful cheese and sausage plates, which you may enjoy indoors or out, and many gifts to select from. In the spirit of camaraderie, you may also enjoy a visit to some of the other wineries in the kingdom of Western Iowa. See our website for a trail map at www.kingscrossingvineyard.com.
3. Journey the Spring Fling wine trail on May 3rd & 4th. This includes the seven Kingdom of Western Iowa wineries and each will likely have breads with dipping oils, cheese, newly released wines and you can take home a Signature Wine Trail wine glass. We are still communing regarding the details, nevertheless, pen the dates on your calendars.
4. It is time to start pruning the vines. The Western Iowa Grape Growers Association will conduct a workshop this Saturday, March 15th at Prairie Crossing Vineyard & Winery. If you have an interest in this activity, I can send you the details. Otherwise, I will be pruning during the next 4 weeks and would be happy to demonstrate (or put you to work). Please call to arrange an appointment. If anyone desires cuttings from our vineyard to start their own vineyard or arbor, contact me at 712-526-2873 or 2486. Please leave a message if there is no answer.
5. The Western Iowa Grape Growers Association is also planning another wine dinner presumably for April 19th. We will provide more details in the next King’s Crossing Herald.
6. We have scheduled the entertainers known to the kingdom as the ”˜Tommy K Band” and the “Enigma” duo for many sessions this summer. We will also have some dates reserved for amateur performers who wish to entertain the masses. We are adding a permanent pavilion, with fans, over the main seating area and food, such as turkey legs and desserts, will be available for your enjoyment. Please check our schedule on the King’s Crossing website under calendar of events.
7. Our winery is available for private parties for a reasonable fee and we can stage a special Medieval Feast for parties of 12 or more.
With such fine ideas to entertain you, do not wallow in boredom at home. Treat yourself and your friends to some grand amusements courtesy of King’s Crossing Vineyard & Winery.
