Medieval Feasts: June 19th & July 3rd, 7-9 pm

Our feasts are prepared by the house cook (that would be me), hosted by innkeeper (Rick) and served banquet style by wenches all garbed in period attire.  We have live Medieval music and a delicious menu which includes roasted turkey, chicken legs, or pork loin, hearty vegetable and beef soup, twice baked potatoes, breads, fruits, dessert and wine, of course (a glass with each course).  Silverware is optional and guests are welcome to dress in medieval garb.  The cost is $30 per person and reservations and prepayment are required.  Call 712-526-2873 or 2486 to secure your seat.

Grillin’ with Iowa Wines - July 11 & 12th, 2009 - The cost is $60 per couple and $35 for a single.  Included in the price is two grilled items at each winery served with two 1 oz. samples of wine, 3 additional samples of wine at each winery, a nice wine tasting game (one per couple passport and one per single passport), and lots of fun.  The wine tasting game has seven pieces and is divided between the 7 wineries, so you need to visit each of the 7 wineries to collect all of your pieces (game board, dice, etc.).  The tasting game is only available to the first 225 passport purchasers, so reserve your ticket early. You can do the trail in one or two days.  It is much more relaxing to do the trail in two days as you rush around to get to all 7 in one day.  The food in the past has been items like grilled chicken legs, grilled peaches, kabobs, grilled shrimp and the like.

You can see a map of all seven wineries on our website under “Contact & Map”, then go to “Click Here for Western Iowa Wine Trail Map”.  The furthest south is Sugar Clay by Thurman and the furthest north and east is Danish Countryside by Elkhorn, IA.

You may of course buy wine and gifts as you go. It’s a great time to stock up on wine since you are already going to each winery.  Most people start at the Sugar Clay, Loess Hills or Danish.  If you want to avoid the rush, start in the middle.  Also, designated drivers get free pop/soda rather than the wine.  Some people rent a limo or get an older teen or non-drinker to drive. It’s fun for them to because they get to observe and shop for gifts.  If they want all the food and cheese set, they need to buy a ticket.
